Look closely at Armstrong Alterna Clay and you’ll find dusty pink, taupe, and brown veining running through a creamy white base, with dark flecks gathered in a few spots. It’s a 16x16 vinyl tile from the Gravity design, finished low gloss.
Armstrong says that, unlike traditional tile, Alterna resists cracking from subfloor movement and drops. It’s waterproof too, and since it’s approved for any grade, a basement floor is fair game. The install is a full-spread glue-down. Grout is optional; if you use it, don’t seal it. At home the limited warranty runs for life, and in light commercial use it runs five years.
