That built-in contrast is what hickory contributes structurally: dramatic light-to-dark variation and pronounced, sometimes wavy grain that no stain fully evens out, and Morningside deepens the darker streaks while leaving the paler figure to read as movement across the floor. Grading here runs high, so knots and mineral streaking show through openly, and gloss holds to 7% under the Repel water-resistant finish, letting light travel across that natural undulation rather than catch on a raised texture.

In a library or study, Morningside's warmth plays well against beadboard cream millwork, a sage-painted wall, and a travertine surface, with brushed graphite hardware pulling in a cooler note so the room does not tip entirely warm.
