Hickory is what gives Vintage its range, swinging from light to noticeably darker within single boards in a way few other species Shaw offers can match. The High character rating lets knots and mineral streaking read strongly here, and a 20% gloss keeps the surface warm rather than reflective. Up close, it holds up to scrutiny.

A craft room built around high-gloss lacquer cabinetry, a pale sand wall, quartzite surfaces and burnished gold hardware needs a floor with enough texture to keep all that shine from feeling cold, and Vintage supplies it. The pillowed edge helps in a room seen mostly at close range. Rather than a crisp, flat seam between boards, each edge is softly rounded, so every joint on the Riverstone line reads as a shallow, shadowed seam rather than a flat line under close inspection. That detail matters more here than in a room people only pass through. This engineered hardwood rewards a closer look.
