Sunkissed carries that unbroken run without turning monotonous, because hickory itself runs from pale cream to deep chocolate within a single plank, its grain wide and assertive rather than fine or repeatable. Shaw hand-scrapes the surface at 6.38 inches wide, and grades it High for character too, adding knots and mineral streaking on top of that natural swing, so the floor never quite repeats itself from one end of the studio to the other. Shaw sets the topcoat at 20% gloss, a step above matte but well short of high shine, with Repel water-resistant protection built in.

That same warm, sun-touched color pairs naturally with ebonised cabinetry, a warm bone wall, pewter surfaces and polished nickel hardware, keeping a small studio apartment feeling considered rather than cramped. A studio gets more concentrated daily wear than a larger home, with no second living room to spread the traffic across. With only 1.2 millimeters of hardwood above the core, sanding this floor down the road is not realistic; there is not enough veneer to spare. Shaw's answer for this Riverstone engineered hardwood is a lighter-touch cycle: a screen-and-recoat now and then keeps the topcoat fresh, and a single damaged board near the kitchen gets swapped out on its own rather than resurfacing the whole run.
