Tradition runs a full 7 inches wide on the Americana Oak line, noticeably broader than Shaw's more common 5-inch formats. Paired with a length range reaching almost five feet, the boards lay out as a handful of long, bold planks rather than a dense grid of seams. White oak carries that width well, since its tight, straight grain and cool undertone stay legible even across a broad face where a busier species might look chaotic. Wire-brushing digs a texture into that grain, opening up the softer early-wood growth rings so the surface has real tactile depth underfoot. This 7% sheen holds the surface matte rather than glossy, letting the texture do the talking on this engineered hardwood.
A breakfast nook sees coffee spills, cereal bowls and rushed mornings more days than not. Tradition holds its own there against cerused ash cabinetry, a tobacco brown wall, basalt surfaces and pewter hardware, all warm enough to soften an early start. This particular board carries a thicker, 2.0mm wear layer than Shaw's more common construction. That extra material gives the finish more to work with over the years, and the Repel water-resistant treatment on top keeps a quick wipe-down from ever turning into a permanent ring at the table. It's a practical pairing for a room used hard every single morning.
