Oak is the industry's benchmark hardwood species, and Sanctuary Oak is Shaw's take on it. Its straight, moderately open grain reads as steady and structured rather than wild, the kind of grain most shoppers picture when they picture hardwood flooring in the first place, and Fireside's warm reddish-brown tone leans into that structure instead of fighting it. High character grading still adds knots, mineral streaking and sapwood strongly enough to keep the floor from looking uniform or flat across a full room. Shaw wire-brushes this engineered hardwood and keeps the sheen low at 7%, so the grain itself stays the focus underfoot rather than the finish sitting on top of it.
Fireside warms up a library or study. Chestnut slab cabinetry, sage walls, a stainless counter and unlacquered brass hardware all read comfortably against that reddish-brown tone, especially in a room meant for lingering rather than passing through. At 6.38 inches wide, each board reads as substantial without overwhelming a study, which tends to be one of the smaller rooms in a house. A narrower plank would disappear under a desk and shelving in a room that size, and a much wider one would start to feel like it belongs in a great room instead.
