Definition of Acidity

Generally, acidity describes the amount of hydrogen and hydroxyl ions in a solution.

It's expressed on a pH scale that ranges from 0 to 14:

  • pH values 0 through 6 represent solutions with high acidity.
  • pH value 7 represents a neutral solution—has an equal measure of acidity and alkalinity.
  • pH values above 7 represent solutions with minimum acidity.
