Finish

Flooring layers

Definition of Finish

The finish refers to the wear layer of flooring. It’s a coating applied to enhance a floor’s appearance and protect it from abrasion, staining, and everyday wear and tear.

Flooring finish can be made from a variety of materials including polyurethane, acrylic, and wax. The right finish depends on the flooring material used and the kind of finish one’s looking for, be that glossy, matte, or distressed.

It’s applied in multiple layers determined by the amount of protection and shine desired.
