Straight-grained and naturally cool in undertone, white oak is the species behind Shaw's Ensemble, and it stays visibly calmer than a red oak or hickory floor even after Atelier's stain and a wire-brushed texture go to work on the surface. That wire-brushing opens the grain just enough to add texture without disguising white oak's underlying straightness, and a UV-cured aluminum oxide finish holding a matte 7% sheen lets light travel along those grooves instead of bouncing back at a viewer. Grade runs high on Ensemble, and that's exactly why knots, mineral streaking and sapwood come through with confidence instead of reading as too uniform or manufactured on a board this wide.
A home office finished with oxblood painted cabinets, a warm bone wall, a basalt counter and burnished gold hardware gives Atelier's cool tone a rich, saturated foil rather than letting it wash out the room. A home office is usually a smaller room than a living area, and a 7.48 inch board can overwhelm a small footprint if it's the wrong species, but white oak's calm grain keeps a wide board like this from making the room feel cramped. At 2.0 mm, the wear layer on this engineered hardwood allows for one careful light refinish down the road, which is a reasonable amount of insurance for a room that will likely see a desk chair rolling across it daily.
