If you want a black and white checkerboard floor, this is the black tile. Armstrong Alterna Betcha Black is a solid black 16x16 vinyl tile with a low-gloss finish. Pair it with Solid White (D4100) and the checkerboard is done.

The tile itself is waterproof, but the subfloor still has to be dry and flat. It glues down full spread at any grade level, so a kitchen or a basement bath works. Rounded edges let you grout it if you like, and Armstrongâ€™s instructions are no grout sealers. Residential floors carry Armstrongâ€™s lifetime limited warranty, and light commercial installs get five years.
