Cairo Oak vs. Calypso Oak: Thickness and Feel

Cairo Oak's 5.2 mm thickness does not by itself mean lower quality. Its dense SPC core emphasizes dent resistance and feels firm underfoot.

COREtec Calypso Oak uses an 8 mm WPC construction with a softer feel and a smaller 7" x 48" plank. Consider Cairo Oak if you prefer wider, longer boards and a firm feel. Compare Calypso Oak if cushioning underfoot matters more to you.

A box of Cairo Oak costs $175.51. One box covers 36.64 square feet. That is $4.79 for each square foot, request a quote for your flooring, trims and delivery. Floor City offers price matching on lower advertised prices from other authorized COREtec dealers, excluding taxes and shipping.

For planning, we recommend adding 10 to 15 percent to your measured area for cuts and waste. Rooms with numerous corners or diagonal layouts may need more material. Have your installer confirm the final quantity for your layout.

COREtec Cairo Oak LVP Questions

Can I install Cairo Oak myself?

The planks click together for a floating installation. COREtec also permits glue-down installation above, on or below grade. No acclimation period is required when installing in a climate-controlled room between 55°F and 85°F.

Prepare a clean, flat, dry subfloor, mix planks from several cartons and leave the required expansion gaps. Follow the COREtec Pro installation guidelines for your installation method.

Is Cairo Oak good for homes with dogs?

Yes. COREtec rates it petproof, it is fully waterproof against accidents, and the attached cork softens the sound of claws on the floor.

Does Cairo Oak need additional underlayment?

A separate cushioning pad is generally unnecessary because cork is already attached. Shaw allows a second underlayment up to 3 mm thick in residential applications, subject to its material restrictions.

Moisture protection is a separate consideration. Shaw recommends 6 mil polyethylene film beneath floating installations over concrete. Waterproof planks do not resolve excessive subfloor moisture, so follow the testing and preparation requirements in the installation guide.

How do I care for Cairo Oak?

Sweep regularly or vacuum without a rotating beater bar, then damp-mop with a pH-neutral vinyl floor cleaner. Avoid steam mops, waxes and polishes. Clean spills promptly and use non-staining floor protectors under furniture. The floor is not scratch-proof.

Use blinds or drapes to limit prolonged direct sunlight, which can cause discoloration and thermal expansion. Follow COREtec's care and maintenance guidance for recommended products and tools.

What warranty comes with Cairo Oak?

COREtec lists a lifetime residential limited wear warranty and a 15-year heavy commercial limited wear warranty for this product. Review the applicable terms and exclusions in the warranty documents.
