The hand-scraped texture on Sequoia's Three Rivers is what sets this hickory apart before color enters the conversation. Each board carries shallow scoop marks and a few deeper gouges, spaced irregularly rather than stamped in a repeating pattern, so light breaks unevenly across the surface instead of bouncing back as one clean reflection. Hickory's own grain adds to that movement, running in tight knots and sudden light-to-dark shifts that a straighter-grained species would not produce. Shaw grades Three Rivers as High character, so this 6.38 inch engineered hardwood plank shows real sapwood streaks, occasional mineral marks, and enough board-to-board variation that no two lengths laid in the same run will ever look quite alike.

Three Rivers suits a coastal cottage living area built around honed soapstone-topped cabinets and smoke grey walls, where a warm hickory floor keeps the palette from tipping too cool. A poured concrete counter and satin chrome hardware add hard, contemporary edges that the hand-scraped surface softens just enough. Shaw approves this plank for nail, staple, glue, or floating installation, so the method can follow the subfloor rather than the other way around. In an older cottage with a plywood subfloor it goes down nailed or stapled in the traditional way, while an addition poured over a slab calls for gluing it down or floating it instead, with the same finished result either way.
